The Artwork
With over a decade of artistry, this innovative contemporary artist has carved a unique niche by redefining the ways in which paint interacts with the canvas. Her latest collection, "88 Constellations," showcases a groundbreaking technique that harnesses the power of fire to transport acrylic paint across the surface, only to be cooled by directed gusts of wind. This process adds a dynamic, fluid quality to the artwork. The artist has developed an acrylic paint formula that once dried, enhances vibrancy and hue. By pushing the boundaries of traditional application, she invites us to rethink the very essence of painting, transforming each piece into a harmonious fusion of chaos and control.
The Artist: Lori Bacigalupi
Raised amidst the vibrant hues of San Francisco and shaped by her travels across the world, she now resides in the Sierra Foothills. Here, away from the bustling city life, immersed in nature's splendor—a perfect backdrop for her artistic awakening she began painting. She has built a design business, yet it was a life-altering event that reignited the dormant artist within her, propelling her into a realm of creativity that pushes boundaries.
With degrees in Anthropology from UC Davis and a Master's in Multicultural Education, her artwork reflects our human interaction with the environment while also exploring themes of the self-love, masculine and feminine roles, archetypes and celebrating our intrinsic interconnectedness. Her collection “Eden is Dying” poignantly addresses the impacts of global warming, portrayed within California's fragile landscape paintings. In another striking series, “88 Constellations,” she invites us to lift our gaze skyward, fostering a sense of wonder as we reflect on our shared histories. This collection inspires exploration, both of the stars above and the depths of our own consciousness, awakening the realization that we are all part of a greater cosmic narrative. Through her innovative approach, Lori Bacigalupi transcends the conventional boundaries of art, emerging as a vital voice in contemporary discussions on culture, environment, and human connection. Her work not only engages but also challenges us to reflect and participate in the dialogues that shape our world and beyond.
