VY CMa is a massive hypergiant star, one of the largest in the universe, located in the Canis Major constellation. This colossal star is so massive you could fit 3 billion Suns inside it. Captured by NASA, approximately 5,000 light-years away, this image shows the star in its final stages before collapsing into a supernova. Despite its immense size and radiation, the artist captured the delicate beauty in its death-like the fragile petals of a lotus. The vibrant gases it emits are a reminder of life's fragility and the inevitability of death, our one shared destiny. Even in its final moments, this giant's presence is undeniable.
